Heston the Soul Man

Sometimes you just don’t understand why an artist isn’t bigger than what they are. That is how I feel about Heston. I have been aware of him since the early 2000 and he has only got better with time. A few days ago I was having a few beers so I decided to Google my man and see what the hell he was up to. That is when I came across the video below. The song is titled “Resign to U” it’s hot. We live in a world with processed music coming from people who can’t play anything, so it is refreshing to hear a true artist. πŸ™‚

R.I.P. Leonard Nimoy

R.I.P. to Leonard Nimoy known to most of us as Mr. Spock. He went home to glory February 27, 2015. He was 83 years old. If you live 83 year that is a good life, but we still morn the lost of this great actor. He is so embedded in my life. I became a Star Trek fan at the tender age of 9. I have enjoyed the entire ride. I was so excited when they did the Star Trek reboot in 2009 and even glad-er (I know that’s not a word) when Spock was part of the movie.
When you have made such a contribution to the arts you never really die, you live on forever. To one of my favorite actors I say “Travel Well”

The Taylor 522 and Dennis Wakeman

My current acoustic guitar is a Taylor 214ce, I love the guitar, it’s the best guitar I have ever had, but it just isn’t quite right. Not as solid as a Taylor should be. My guitar teacher won’t call it a lemon, but it’s not right. πŸ™

Having said that I was looking to get a new guitar, so I’m looking at the Taylor 522 on the internet and I run across a guy named Dennis Wakeman who is auditioning the guitar. He is playing the song “on the sunny side of the street” which was composed in 1930 by Jimmy McHugh with lyrics by Dorothy Fields. I really liked his chord progressions. I said to myself I need to learn this song and play it just like Dennis. Here is the song πŸ™‚

What another Grand Opening?

Well it’s time to get started again. I have been gone awhile, hopefully I’ll be more active this time around. As before my main purpose is to turn this into a music website specializing in Soul, Funk and R&B. I’m also going to document my journey in putting together my first album.

Let’s get started. πŸ™‚

I stopped taking formal guitar lessons today!

Well after 3 years of taking guitar lessons today was my last day, Now there is no way am I saying I have perfected the guitar, but I can say that I now see the light. I have been playing guitar for over 20 years and I can honestly say in those 20 years I just didn’t get it and wasn’t worth a damn, but thanks to my instructor I now know the road map to be being a good player. All I have to do now is practice my ass off and re-enforce what I have learned and build from the knowledge I have.

R.I.P. Jimmy Ruffin Motown Legend Dead At 78

Dear Diary – 11-10-2014 – Ecommerce Hell

I spent all day yesterday working on my WordPress Theme Fast News from kopatheme.com. I really wanted to use this theme because I like the newpaper style setup, but then I discovered that the theme is not Woo Commerce compatible, so I had to move on. I decided to go with the paid version of the theme I’ve used for the past 12 months, The Permanent theme
by NewWpThemes.com. The Permanent theme is Woo Commerce compatible. The Woo Commerce plugin for those who don’t know is an e-commerce plugin that is compatible with WordPress. It is suppose to give the customer a seamless shopping experience. I’m anxious to get my shop setup.

This blog at the end of the day will be strictly a music blog that covers different aspects of the music industry, but what I’m doing now is documenting my journey to get my music site up and running.Β  Talk to you later.

Dear Diary – 11-08-2014

I hope today is an active day for me. I plan on researching how to setup Woo Commerce on my blog. I was using Volusion to handle my Veston Guitar Tees website, but I thought their fees were too high. I’ll address that company and their prices at a later time. I need to get some good exercise in, I’m working real hard on my discipline, it’s an on-going battle. Lastly I need to get in some good practice on my guitar. I have this Nat King Cole song I want to work on, I’ll post the song later today.

Let’s get started.

Bobby Womack – March 4, 1944 – June 27, 2014

Bobby Womack was one of the greatest to ever do it. When he went to glory on June 27, 2014, I was truly a sad camper. Womacks signature songs, That’s The Way I Feel About Cha”, “If You Think You’re Lonely Now”, “Harry Hippie” and “Across 110th Street”Β  were the anthems of my teen age and early adult years. Back then singers were really singers, you could feel the power of their voice in every note and phrase.

Bobby Womack you will always be remembered and will live forever in song.
